Top Dog Hockey

Our mission is to provide both the best hockey training, as well as high-quality activities to ensure that all players have a positive camp experience. Our experienced instructors lead the industry with challenging and innovative training techniques.

Top Dog Hockey Camps are run by John Haglund who has more than 23 years experience operating high-quality hockey camps. Over the years, Top Dog has trained more than 27,500 players, many of whom return year after year to get the best hockey training. Currently he is a certified teacher, high school coach and hockey director in Minnesota, John was also a player & coach at Minnesota State, Mankato.

Coach Haglund continues his mission to operate hockey programs that not only help to further each player's skill development, but also help to further each player's love for the game of hockey.

The Top Dog staff has been selected based on their proven abilities to communicate and instruct hockey players of all ages. Our instructors are successful high school coaches, college coaches, college players and certified teachers. At Top Dog our professional instructors are concerned with advancing each player's skill while ensuring a safe, positive camp experience. Our staff is dedicated to providing supervision and child safety from the moment players arrive until the moment players leave.

• Dan Bauer has 21+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Dan is the head coach and a teacher at Wausau High School.
• Theran Bauer has 11+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Theran is a former player for U of M Crookston and, he attended Top Dog Hockey more than 10 years.
• Ken Essay has 15+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Ken is the A.D. at Mankato West High School and a former player at Minnesota State University.
• Nate LaPoint has 12+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Nate works for the University of Wisconsin men's hockey team. Nate is a former college player and he attended Top Dog Hockey Camps for 4 years.
• Derrick LaPoint has 8+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Derrick plays hockey for the North Dakota, Sioux, a draft pick of the Florida Panthers and he attended Top Dog Hockey Camps for 4 years.
• Ed Loiselle has 21+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Ed is a teacher at Shakopee High School, and was inducted into Shakopee Hall of Fame in 2010 for coaching High School Hockey for 18 years.
• Chris Lonke has 17+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Chris is the head coach at New Prague High School.
• Steve O'Hern has 7+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Steve is a former college player and coaches high school hockey in MN.
• Matt Miller has 11+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Matt has coached goalies at all levels and a former hockey analyst and goalie coach for the Houston Aeros (AHL). 
• Rory Sandvig has 19+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Rory is a teacher and coach at Moorhead High School and a former coach and player at North Dakota State University.
• Jeff Weber has 8+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Jeff has taught at all levels at Top Dog Hockey and has tremendous enthusiasm and rapport with players and parents. He is a former player at Eau Claire North High School and, he attended Top Dog Hockey 3 years.
• Brian Thul has 10+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Brian is a teacher at Edinbrook Elementary School. Brian is currently a referee’s in division one men’s hockey for the WCHA.
• John Van Cleave has 20+ years experience teaching in summer camps. John is a teacher at Viroqua High School and a former goalie at University of Wisconsin Superior.
• Jay Barriball has 5+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Jay plays hockey for the MN Gophers, a draft pick of the San Jose Sharks, he attended Top Dog Hockey Camps for 4 years.
• Ken Eddy has 14+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Ken is a coach at Faribault High School and a former player at Kent State University. Ken also played minor pro hockey for over 10 years.
• Greg Sears has 9+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Greg is the head coach at LaCrosse High School and a former player for Northwest Wisconsin Knights of the MJHL.
• Tony Renlund has 14+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Tony is the head coach and a teacher at Oregon High School. He is also the president of Wisconsin High School Hockey Coaches Association.
• Justin Grant has 15+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Justin is a former goalie for Northland College and is also playing minor pro hockey for the Quad City Mallards.
• Peter Orchard has 5+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Peter is a teacher at Shakopee High School, and a former High School Hockey coach.
• Brooke Hanson has 4+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Brooke is a college student at Stevens Point, and a player for the Stevens Point women’s hockey team.
