The Top Dog staff has been selected based on their proven abilities to communicate and instruct hockey players of all ages. Our instructors are successful high school coaches, college coaches, college players and certified teachers. At Top Dog our professional instructors are concerned with advancing each player's skill while ensuring a safe, positive camp experience. Our staff is dedicated to providing supervision and child safety from the moment players arrive until the moment players leave.
Top Dog Hockey Camps are run by John Haglund who has more than 28 years experience operating high-quality hockey camps. Over the years, Top Dog has trained more than 29,500 players, many of whom return year after year to get the best hockey training. Currently, John is a Varsity Hockey Coach for Shakopee High School and a Youth Hockey Director. John was also a player & coach at Minnesota State, Mankato.
Coach Haglund continues his mission to operate hockey programs that not only help to further each player's skill development, but also help to further each player's love for the game of hockey.
Justin Grant has 16+ years of experience in summer camps. He is a former college goalie at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. Justin also played professional hockey for the Quad City Mallards (CHL/ECHL) Currently, Justin is a Minnesota High School Goalie Coach.
Jack is with Top Dog for his first time this summer. He has 5 years of coaching experience. He played 3 years for the Lakeville North Varsity team, making it to the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament in 2011 and as a captain in 2013. Diercks has helped coach association teams at all levels in Lakeville and Mankato, Minnesota. He is currently an assistant coach at Mankato East High School in Mankato, MN. Skating/Edges and offense are his specialties.
Tanner has 7+ years experience teaching in summer camps. He played varsity hockey for Hutchinson High School for 3 years and helped lead his team to the Minnesota State Boys Hockey Tournament in 2009. Tanner has taught at all levels at Top Dog Hockey and has tremendous enthusiasm and rapport with players and parents.
Zach is mainly the dryland-coach. He has 2 years of coaching experience, and this is his second year at Top Dog Hockey Camp and he also is the goalie coach at Mankato East High School. Zach will be a Senior at Minnesota State University, Mankato. He played 3 years of high school hockey at Champlin Park and now plays for the MSU-Mankato Club Hockey Team. During youth hockey, Zach attended Top Dog Hockey Camp for 3 years and played in the Brooklyn Park and Champlin youth associations.
Quinn Horvath has 5+ years experience teaching in camps. He played varsity hockey for Marshall High School and played in the 2013 High School State Hockey Tournament. Currently, Quinn is a Bantam Coach in Mason City, Iowa. Quinn attended Top Dog Camp for 4 years.
Dan Bauer has 21+ years expereince teaching at Top Dog summer camps. He is a teacher at Wausau High School and resigned last year as the Boys Head Hockey Coach in order to be the assistant coach for the Central Wisconsin Storm which his daughters play for.
Coach Van Cleave has 20+ years of experience at Top Dog Hockey summer camps. He is a former goalie at the University of Wisconsin Superior. Currently, he teaches physical education at Viroqua Elementary School.
Derrick LaPoint has 10+ years experience teaching in summer camps. Derrick played hockey for the North Dakota Sioux and was a draft pick of the Florida Panthers. He attended Top Dog Hockey Camps for 4 years.
Greg Sears has 11+ years of experience with Top Dog Hockey Camps. He is a former Assistant Coach for the Coulee Region Chill in the NAHL, and has 8 years experience as a WI Prep Head Coach. Greg is currently the Head Coach for the U18 AAA Atlanta Fire. He is also a former player for Northwest Wisconsin Knights (MJHL).
Jeff Weber has 10+ years experience teaching at Top Dog Hockey Camps. He currently assists with the Shakopee High School Hockey team, and also coaches AAA teams at different levels.
Ed Loiselle has 24+ years of experience teaching at summer camps. He is a teacher at Shakopee High School. Ed is currently the Head Varsity Hockey Coach for the Shakopee Boys High School Team. In 2010 Ed was inducted into the Shakopee Hall of Fame for coaching High School hockey for 18 years.
Brian Thul has 10+ years experience teaching in camps. He is a teacher at Edinbrook Elementary School. Currently Thul is a referee in D1 men’s hockey for the WCHA.
Peter Orchard has been working at Top Dog summer camps for 6+ years. Peter is a Vice Principal at Jackson Elementary School, and a former High School Hockey Coach.
Jake Costello has 3+ years experience teaching summer Camps. He played hockey for Corning West High School in NY. Jake attended Top Dog Hockey Camp for 2 years.
Chase West has 2+ years experience teaching in summer Camps. Chase played varsity hockey for Anoka High School for 2 years and will be attending UMD next fall.
